Outline your business and entrepreneurial skills, including your relative achievements to date in running a business:
Designed2Eat is a company specializing in healthy high quality, organic or locally sourced cakes and cookies that are designed for people who either follow a Paleo, Vegan, Diabetic or Celiac Lifestyle as the treats contain no dairy, gluten, wheat, sugar, egg, soy or anything artificial. Designed2Eat has given me the ability to exercise my entrepreneurial skills by demonstrating my passion for healthy living via Designed2Eat’s daily blog. Through being focused and confident I have had to make decisive and calculated risks in order to get my business to where it is today. For instance, All the products have been invented and developed by myself. This has meant that I have had to seek out the most ethical and cost effective raw materials, design the graphics for the Designed2Eat brand, find the suitable packing, labeling and make sure production, manufacturing all adhere to Food Safety and Legal standards. This has all been in conjunction with the marketing, networking and advertising of the products on social media, building ecommerce sites and attending networking events as well as ensuring Designed2Eat has a profitable business plan through accounting. Having started as an Instagram blog one year ago, and amazon affiliate website 6 months ago, Designed2Eat has advanced to a healthy treats company over the last 2 months having performed it’s first food market in Doncaster last month and launched into the first shops this month in Sheffield. Personal significant achievements that have been important to me was Designed2Eat being contacted to write for a magazine every month with a 2 pages spread as well as being a Food highlight in the Sheffield Telegraph (which has later brought more orders and work).
Why do you have the ability to be an inspiring role model? Provide examples to illustrate:
I believe I have the ability to be an inspiring role model because whilst I have Designed2Eat, I am just finishing my first year of University at Sheffield Hallam studying Food Marketing Management as well as having a part time job in a healthy fast food restaurant called Nourish. In order to complete all my commitments, I hold a strong hard-working ethic and a determination to achieve and better my goals. For instance, I awake at 6am every morning and start work, either with inventory, Nourish or University assignments and you will regularly find me still work around 10pm. However, through my blog have a several opinions and guidelines on how to live a healthy lifestyles and I do live by what I preach. To be healthy you have to be able to listen to your body. In order to do this you need to eat right, sleep well, exercise and enjoy what you do thereby helping to keep your stress levels down. I work like to work every waking minute because I enjoy what I do. I get a buzz and satisfaction from it like now other. Either that deriving from learning about nutrition, food’s history and it’s effect in my Introduction to Nutrition module or if I am product developing Nourish’s new Spring or Summer Menu. I believe I have the ability to inspire others to find their passion and to have the confident to pursue it. Having performed sports to an elite level throughout my childhood; this has evolved a strong ethic within me that you can do anything you want as long as you have the passion for it. If you have the passion for something the following characteristics will follow and lead to success such as hard work, motivation. positivity and confident.
What is your business / idea and what would you use the £5,000 towards if you were to win
In my future plans and goals for Designed2Eat I would like to be the first distributor of real food celebration cakes. For instance, chocolate, vanilla, lemon, coffee, carrot and coconut cake in full size prominently for people who are vegan, veggie, diabetic, paleo, dairy free, gluten free, wheat free, egg free, soy free or if a person knows a person who lives by all these and would like to give them a cake. I can see Designed2Eat being the major supplier to supermarkets, cafe’s and restaurants as well as the individual. In addition, I would like to widen Designed2Eat’s product range to Paleo pasta and Paleo Pizza. This would then allow me in the future to have a ready meal range that will be able to cater for this market. In 2014, the gluten free market is growing by 30% each year: the dairy free market by 200% and the Paleo market is growing at an incalculable rate and I want Designed2Eat to be apart of this. This should hopefully all drive towards my ultimate goal of having my own healthy fast food restaurant that is nationwide and in service stations particularly. If I was to win: I would invest it in marketing and advertising in order to get Designed2Eat to more people. I would also use it to buy bigger better equipment, more investment into packaging and contribute towards product development. The £5,000 would be benefit Designed2Eat as it would enable us work at a faster rate. Either with that reaching more people quicker through marketing, better production efficiency’s through more and better equipment as well as having future products ready for market. In addition having the extra money would also allow us to do more and better Food Festival Markets across the country such as Jamie Oliver’s Cotswold Food Festival.
